It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.

As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’s past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave.

my thoughts-01

One thing I love about certain series books is how I can go so long in between reading the books, but still get totally immersed in the next one I pick up. It’s like the story just comes back to me the second I start reading and I fall in love with the characters once again. And really, with Bones and Cat, how can you not fall back in love with them?

First things first, we meet Vlad in this book! I had heard so many things about Vlad and how awesome he was and I am happy to say that, yes, he is indeed AWESOME. I can’t wait to start reading the spin-off series with his character because he’s just so handsome and quite the memorable character.

Of course, with the characters I love come the characters I hate. Tate is one of my least favourite characters and it bugs the CRAP out of me how he is always preaching his love for Cat and fawning over her. Especially since Cat and Bones are, uh … MARRIED?!?!? I mean, geez, Tate — get a clue! (Hopefully you’re reading this after reading the second book — or I may have spoiled things. I’m assuming you’re reading this review after being caught up with me in the series!)

Anyway, all characters aside, this was quite the ride of a book! There was a crazy amount of suspense and LOTS of gore — probably more gore than in either of the first two books in this series. So many things were happening, which meant I would get totally enthralled whenever I picked up the book. It was awesome seeing so many strong vampires all working together!

I do have to say that one of my most favourite things in these books is the devotion between Cat and Bones. Other vampires or people may try to tear them apart, or things might happen to either Cat or Bones, but they always remain so true to one another! I love it! I’m not sure if I could read the series if it was any other way.

If you haven’t read this series, I hope you will. It’s a hell of a ride!
